Issues: Rural Broadband
No Dem Left Behind is all about standing up for rural America and encouraging everyone in politics to do the same. When there’s a chance to make life better for folks in rural areas, we should grab it! The goal is to pay attention to the specific needs of rural communities, make sure everyone feels heard, and work together to bring about positive changes. Across the United States, Democrats are fighting for better broadband access in rural districts. A lot of ARPA money given to rural districts was used to expand broadband throughout rural America.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is set to open a new rulemaking process on October 19, considering the reinstatement of net neutrality rules implemented during the Obama administration. The proposed rules, aimed at preventing internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking or throttling customers’ internet traffic, have bipartisan implications, with Democratic FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel likely securing the necessary votes for approval. The move follows the confirmation of a third Democratic commissioner, ending a two-year partisan deadlock. Industry leaders, including USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter, expressed readiness to challenge the regulations, potentially leading to legal battles. The regulatory push aligns with President Joe Biden’s call to reinstate net neutrality rules in 2021. The FCC, anticipating a “messy” debate, plans to collect comments before finalizing the regulations.
